My Story

Blue HorizontalMy daughter gave me a guitar kit for Christmas of 2016. I had never built a guitar before but I have always enjoyed working with my hands.  It was a great kit but the instructions for finishing and assembly were vague.  I had to figure it all out on my own.  I did a lot of research online and found a technique that would produce the finish that I wanted. I documented the process with my GoPro for posterity. I learned a lot and loved the process.  I was extremely happy with my finished product both aesthetically and as a musical instrument. Playing a guitar that I built myself was a very gratifying experience.

In October of 2017, I started my second build.  This time I ordered the neck and body from a vendor in Vancouver, BC and selected the components that I wanted from Fender and other vendors.  I built it for my son who has been playing guitar since he was 5 and has very high standards for guitars. Again, I had a blast learning new things and applying them to my work. I documented that process with my GoPro as well.

After completing the second guitar, I decided that I want to continue doing this and share my experience with others.  I want to help people who open their kit and feel overwhelmed, feel comfortable that they can do it.  I want others to be able to use the mistakes that I have made and what I learned from those mistakes to create their own amazing guitars. If I can do this, anyone can.

Learning More

cropped-cropped-guitar-in-case-e1514639877626.jpgI’m going to continue to build guitars as a hobby and continue to share what I learn for anyone who wants to learn with me. I will also share music samples from each guitar so you can hear the sound quality that each of them produce.

I already have my next two projects planned and will share the progress on those as I go.  If there is a guitar kit that you would like to see built or a finishing technique that you are curious about, send me a note.  I’ll do some research and if I like your idea, I’ll give it a try.

I can’t possibly keep all of the guitars that I want to build. I plan to donate one of the next two guitars to a charity auction. The other, I may try to sell at cost or maybe keep to decorate the man-cave. The results of each of them will determine their destiny.  If you would like one of the guitars that I have built, I’ll sell it at my cost.  I’m not looking to make a profit.  This is a hobby.

Links to all build processes can be found on the projects page.  I’ll also include links to the vendors that I used to order parts and tools as well as other online resources that I used. If you have questions about them, feel free to leave me a note and I’ll respond when I can.
